It all started on a usual day during our studies, where we decided to crest a mountain chain by bike. Well, a mountain… Or a hill, it was definitely a hill! Anyway, it was pretty exhausting. After this physical challenge we figured we deserve a nice and cold evening beer. Something one should do more often since these are exactly the moments ideas are born.
We suddenly thought we should create a blog. A website, where we share stories and information about global change, environmental issues and possibilities to act. Why? Because, it becomes increasingly unbearable to learn about these things but not to communicate them. Well, to be honest at this moment we were basically just talking without thinking we were actually going to do it. After all, we don’t really have the time for it anyway, do we?
However, ever since we put it into words, we couldn’t stop thinking about it. Disregarding our concerns regarding time management, we started making hypothetical plans until first concepts developed. Our idea had started to grow. If we did start a blog, it would:
So it happened that someday we sat together in a lecture and tinkered with a suitable name for our website. Unfortunately with 7 billion people on earth it is not easy to come up with something that not at least one person came up with earlier. After several days of brainstorming, Google checking and quite untalented scribbling of dandelions and ginkgo leaves, facingchange was born (at least theoretically). Simple and without any flowers – suitable for artistically ungifted people.
facingchange stands for – big surprise – change (well, it’s not so obvious in German!). It stands for the need to become aware of global change, to accept it and to face it. For starting to change ourselves in order to be able to make big changes together. In our articles we will tell you about our own experiences or topics we find important to raise attention about. The cheat sheet give you short explanations of terms and concepts that keep coming back and that we also had to revise prior each exam. And under impulses we share ideas, news or (ir)relevant things we randomly come across.
We don’t want to lecture you. We are not perfect ourselves but are rather constantly evolving. However, we have learned that changes are possible and necessary and that, once the first step into a green life is taken, the next step is not far away. We want to share our experiences. We do not want to make any rules, we want to give impulses. We want to pass on our motivation and optimism. With the aim of changing something together. Not someday, but right now.
For a green life.
