Hey, Jori speaking. I’ll start with the boring facts about myself so that we can move on to something more interesting. I live in Leipzig, Germany now, but grew up in a small town in northern Germany. In the last couple of years, I’ve lived in various places. I did my bachelors in the impossible-to-explain subject of “Liberal Arts and Sciences: Global Challenges”. There I majored in Sustainability. This Bachelor was followed by the Master in “Global Change: Ecosystem Science and Policy”.
And now I am making the world a better place.
With that I do not mean “I would like to try to change something, but I actually don’t really believe that it is going to work”, no I would not like to, I will make the world a better place! Firstly through my own actions and secondly through my communication with others. My instrument for this is called hope. Having hope is most definitely not always easy in this line of work. And precisely that is the reason why I am writing for this blog. Here I have the possibility to take an observation, experience or realisation that has been taking me to the edge of despair and turn it into something positive. I can use it as an inspiration to share something close to my heart with you out there. In this way these kinds of experiences do not remain something making myself more angry and bitter, but become a chance to change something. And that is my goal. That does not have anything to do with me wanting to force everybody into a perfectly environmentally friendly life, to forbid everyone to fly on holiday, drive a car or eat fast food. The aim is simply to keep a spark of hope alive, always and everywhere. And to slowly (or preferably quickly) ignite it more and more until it becomes a veritable inferno of hope, infecting everybody it meets and making all of us behave more aware towards ourselves, others, and particularly our environment.
Even though I am talking about hope so much here, you will not only hear positive stories from e. Unfortunately in the area of climate and environment, just like in most other areas, it is necessary to first point out the problems, before tackling the solutions. Nonetheless the main topic of this blog are the solutions, and in this context I will write a lot about what I have changed or am changing in my own everyday life and about what kind of problems I faced or am still facing. In my eyes becoming more environmentally friendly and aware in your own life is a process and with every step I take, the next steps become clearer. It is this process that I want to share with you. Furthermore I will to write about projects and actions from others that work on making the world greener and more sustainable. Other topics I will talk about are environmental issues in general and in the urban context in particular, as this is an area regularly on my city-lover’s mind.
